Jem has sung in choirs from a very young age. Beginning with the Australian Boys Choir, Jem got to know the musical and social value of singing, particularly in a group. As a secondary school student, Jem learnt singing with Carrie Barr. Other teachers have included Noel Ancell, Dermot Tutty and David Greco. Jem sang in various college choirs as a university student, including the Choir of Trinity College, the University of Melbourne (Aus), and the choirs of Hild-Bede and Hatfield College (UK). With these groups he sang at Westminster Abbey, St Paul’s Cathedral (London), St George’s Windsor, Durham Cathedral, York Minster, Hexham Abbey, Ely Cathedral, St. John's and Trinity College, Cambridge, Westminster Cathedral and St Peter's Basilica in the Vatican City. Jem grew up learning the Kodály method of musical literacy. This provided him with solid musical foundations which he still draws from and teaches today. Jem is a very good sight-reader and learns music quickly. Jem has previously taught choir and voice (along with piano) at Geelong Grammar School, Timbertop campus. | ![]() |
